Affectionately known as The Colonel by thousands of Aggie band members, Haney attended A&M briefly as a member of the class of 1948 before being drafted. He returned to College Station after the war. After building Mexia High School’s band into an award-winning program, he took over as Aggie band director in 1973 and held that post until 1989.
