Fancy on a Bach Air

for Viola Solo
This piece for unaccompanied viola solo transforms the gentle arches of Bach’s theme into slowly soaring arpeggi of almost unending phrase lengths. Originally written for cello, it was premiered by Yo-Yo Ma in Boston in 1997 in memory of Robert Goldberg. This version for viola is edited by Melia Watras.
