The familiar folk song Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Hair is the basis of this beautifully scored work in E minor. The melodic line occurs in various voices against a slightly contrapuntal accompaniment. With octave scoring in all voices, this theme eventually becomes the impetus in the final measures.
