Time to Spare

A check of the time signature-5/4-and one can tell that the title of this piece is slightly “tongue in cheek.” The “extra” beat in each measure has a natural feel to it. The eighth notes are swung, creating a light and jazzy style. Occasional changes to 3/4 meter keep students on their toes, yet they are easy to count and play. In C minor, this well-crafted solo is a welcome addition for those who are looking for something written in a different key and meter.
