Festival Toccata

The trademark Vandall style—rhythmic vitality coupled with lyrical passage work—is present in this exciting duet. The vivace tempo marking sets the stage for the toccata, written in G Mixolydian and 4/4 meter. Syncopation, accents and sequential passagework are hallmarks of the opening A section. The lyrical B section features secondo and primo trading a broken chord accompaniment back and forth as the parts trade the melody as well. The piece closes with a rousing return of the A section.
