Heartland Sketches

Heartland Sketches was designed as a five minute work suitable to open or close a band concert. This tribute to Myron Welch (University of Iowa’s Director of Bands) includes fragments of the Iowa Fight Song and Alma Mater Iowa. Cast in ternary form, the main theme is composed of original material and is suggested initially by a horn section fanfare, and is later stated in its entirety by the full band in Nobilmente style.
