Meet Preston Wollaston and Roy Hamasaki of Central Music
Original Article Posted on Voyage Phoenix on April 4th, 2019
Today we’d like to introduce you to Preston Wollaston and Roy Hamasaki.
Central Music started as Sedberry’s in the mid-1950s changing to Central Music in 1959. Roy started working at the store awhile thereafter and Preston joined the staff in October of 2004.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Plenty of struggles… economic shifts, changes in music trends, light rail construction, mail order competition, online competition, etc
Please tell us about Central Music.
We specialize in sheet music, instruments, accessories, rentals, and gifts. We would like to assume that we have one of the largest collections of print music in Phoenix. We also do repairs and stock small adapters/cables. We have a website where we ship worldwide, but there are a lot of items in our store that are not posted on our site. We have had the pleasure of serving generations of teachers, students, students that become teachers.
And least, traffic. Since we are growing rapidly, people need to start driving like we’re in a big city and not out on the wide open road in the countryside with no speed limits.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
We love that our city is growing and becoming more of an urban environment and Phoenix is one of the most friendliest cities in the nation.
