Eight-O-Four

This is the perfect solo for students who like to sleep late! The clever lyrics describe a mother knocking on a child’s door in the morning. The student knocking on the wood of the piano depicts this sound. The music fosters independence between the two hands as one hand must play while the other one is “knocking.” Written in C major, the melody is often divided between the hands and is also played by the right hand while accompanied by harmonic seconds and thirds in the left hand. There is also an optional teacher accompaniment that adds a touch of whimsy to the performance.
