Gateway West

This pioneering spirit is clearly reflected in the rhythmically exciting opening of Gateway West. Shifting meters and interesting “percussion fills” are combined with bright, lighthearted woodwind melodies. The trip west was not an easy one and these early travelers endured great hardships and many unhappy days. The slow middle section of Gateway West, with its minor tonality and lyrical melodies, reflects that part of the long, perilous journey.
