Intent on Resurrection – Spring or Some Such Thing

for 17 Musicians

Clara Iannotta’s Intent on Resurrection – Spring or Some Such Thing is a 14-minute work for large ensemble (1.0.1(Bb-Cl,BCl).1 – 1.1.1.0 – 2Perc – Pf – Hp – 2Vln.2Vla.2Vlc.Cb). The composition is based on three small collections of poems by Dorothy Molloy, who died of cancer at the age of 62, just 10 days before her works were published. They depict her journey through illness and the destruction of her body, which she recounts with touching and at the same time cynical lucidity. In the darkness of this transformation, Dorothy Molloy introduces, from time to time, small, almost imperceptible glints of light that give an utterly new perspective to material which is otherwise perfectly still.

Intent on Resurrection – Spring or Some Such Thing was premiered in October 2014 by the Ensemble Intercontemporain Paris conducted by Matthias Pintscher.

The full score of this work is available for sale for the first time as part of the Peters Contemporary Library. The performance material can be hired.
