Lullaby for a Puppy

Her own puppy no doubt inspired Margaret Goldston’s newest solo. Children will delight in the lyrics and her clever use of the melody from “Are You Sleeping?” Both will help students learn and memorize the piece quickly. Written in 4/4 time and C position, the melody is found in the right hand and is accompanied by left-hand intervals of fifths and seconds. Both staccato and legato touches are required as well as a full dynamic range from piano to forte. This solo can serve as an excellent review of many first year concepts. The delightful optional duet part adds harmony and warmth, making this piece a good choice for a variety of recital settings.
