Stephen Hough s Paradise, written as the test piece for the 2016 National Flute Association Piccolo Artist Competition does something a little bit different; as the composer himself says, I wanted to allow the piccolo to become the romantic lead to play the passionate hero. Written in three sections, Hough s piece is a typically thoughtful, stylish and welcome addition to the piccolo repertoire.
