Quintet for Strings by Nicola LeFanu is a celebratory work for two violins, viola and two celli to mark the 100^th anniversary of the British Music Society of York. It embodies both celebration and reflection: the festive energy of celebration, and reflection appropriate to the traditions of European chamber music that the society honours. The quintet was commissioned by The British Music Society of York and was written for the Sacconi string quartet, with Tim Lowe cello, to première in York in October, 2021.
