The American composer Norman Dello Joio (1913-2008) was a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1957. Dello Joio’s music incorporates the use of both traditional chants and more modern, jazz rhythms. This concerto was commissioned by the International Trumpet Guild.
