Score
synaptic arpeggiator by Minas Borboudakis is a 21-minute work for five woodwind instruments (piccolo, cor anglais, clarinet in E-flat, bass clarinet and contrabassoon). The instrumentation for the so-called third woodwinds of an orchestra is an unusual combination for chamber music. The idea of the piece is based on the arpeggiator, one of the most basic functions of the synthesizers of the 1980s, in which partials of an overtone series are sent as midi signals in certain rhythmic structures over several octaves.
synaptic arpeggiator was premiered on 20 October 2011 at the Muffathalle Munich by members of the Bavarian State Orchestra.
