Temple of the Murals

Experience the mysteries of Bonampak, an ancient structure located in Mexico’s Mayan Riviera. This programmatic work portrays three different rooms within the structure and is thus divided into three sections – Robing of the Nobles, War, and Ceremony. After an explosive fanfare, an intense war section features an abundance of percussion, woodwind flourishes and powerful fugue statements. The final section is based on an authentic Mayan song and brings the work to a powerful conclusion!
